Our core business was formed representing corporate policyholders in recovering proceeds from their insurance carriers by asserting claims on their behalf. Our clients typically have been Fortune 500 companies and other major U.S. and international corporations, but we also work on behalf of towns and municipalities, small companies, and individuals. We routinely handle claims ranging from $5 million to $500 million or more.
Our practice has broadened over the years and currently encompasses various types of complex dispute resolution. The largest part of our practice still involves representing clients in recovering insurance proceeds to cover large liability exposures, including environmental clean-up costs and asbestos and toxic tort payments, but we also handle many other types of insurance claims, as well as helping recover environmental response costs from other parties responsible for a cleanup, negotiating transactions in the art world, and facilitating resolution of art-related disputes, including restitution of works of art and other property confiscated during World War II. Our approach to recovery utilizes our skills and experience in negotiation and mediation; we focus on resolving claims on an expedited schedule and without litigation.
Through our collective years of experience, we are able to resolve highly complex claims of many kinds, on a one-time basis or as an ongoing advisor, as part of your overall business strategy.
Corporations are most accustomed to defending legal actions, not pursuing their rights against other companies. Defense lawyers and large law firms are accustomed to hiding the ball through years of discovery, begrudging response to information requests, and preparing a case as it unfolds. We understand that when a company wishes to recover its money from other companies – whether insurance proceeds, environmental contribution, or otherwise – it wants quick and efficient results, and that the net recovery is most important. Likewise, when individuals are attempting to recover property that is rightfully theirs, they wish to avoid the time and expense of going to court. We are available to negotiate, mediate or arbitrate, in order to recover the property or otherwise resolve the dispute in the most efficient manner.
